Where Did We Come From?

First: Three PILLARS of truth.

Pillar number one: God CREATED everything.

Genesis 1:1 (NASB) “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Hebrews 2:10 (NASB) “For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.”

Pillar number two: God thought of us FIRST but created us LAST.

Ephesians 1:4 (NASB) “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.

James 1:18 (NASB) “In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.”

Pillar number three: God custom DESIGNED each of us.

Psalm 139:13-15a (NASB) For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You.”

Second: What are the IMPLICATIONS of these truths?

Implication #1: Your life is SACRED.

Genesis 1:27 (NASB) “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

3 reason your life is sacred.

1. God designed you in His image.

Psalm 8:5 (NASB) “You have made him (man) a little lower than God, and You crown him with glory and majesty!”

2. God planned your life before you were born.

Jeremiah 1:5 (NASB) ““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Isaiah 49:1 (NASB) The LORD called Me from the womb; From the body of My mother He named Me.”

3. God made you for His pleasure.

Revelation 4:11 (NASB) “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”

Implication #2: Your life has great WORTH.

1. Real worth comes from realizing that God sacrificed Jesus, His Son, for you.

Ephesians 1:7 (NASB) “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us.”

2. Real worth comes when you realize that the Holy Spirit lives in your life.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NASB) “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”

3. Jesus gives you a new identity.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NASB) “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

Implication #3: Your days have PURPOSE.

Psalm 139:16 (NASB) “Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.”

Implication #4: My problems have INTENTIONALITY.

Genesis 50:20 (NASB) “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.”

Implication #5: Your future is ETERNITY.

Psalm 23:6 (NASB) “Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

1 Thessalonians 4:17 (NASB) “Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.”

John 1:12-13 (NASB) “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Application:

What does it mean to you that you were created in the image of God?

Since life is sacred how should that direct your attitude and actions toward others?

How would you evaluate your progress at fulfilling God’s purposes for your life?

Would you say that you 1. __ Cooperate or 2.__ resist God’s work in your life?

What do you need to do to better cooperate with what God desires to do in and through your life?

Have you surrendered you life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ? Are you born again according to Scripture?

What has God shown you this morning?

What will you do to adjust your life to His will?

Memory verse: John 1:12-13 (NASB) “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
